Topic: Page scrolls to top before slide

I have a relatively long page of text (several scrolls down) with a link at the end that does 'async' request and then creates a new layer from the returned xml response.

Every time before the new layer slides in the hole page scrolls to the top, which looks very unpleasant. Is there any ways to avoid such behavior?

The same applies to menu lists. Imagine a long list of links: after selecting  something ( e.g. on the second page scroll) and go to the next page, and then back - I have to scroll the list again from the beginning. It would be nice to return to the same scroll position - that's browser does by default.
